| Toxic Chemicals Officially Implicated in Gulf War Syndrome |

A 450 page scientific study authorized by Congress was released on Monday stating that exposure to toxic chemicals during the Gulf War has resulted in one in four veterans becoming chronically ill from the conflict in 1990-1991. Specifically, a drug given to protect soldiers from nerve gas (pyridostigmine bromide) and pesticides used against sand flies have been implicated. These nervous system toxins have resulted in many veterans suffering from chronic headaches, unexplained fatigue, difficulty with memory and concentration, and generalized pain. Many also suffer from digestive problems, respiratory symptoms, and skin rashes. There is currently no known "cure". However, limiting additional toxic exposures (read "Holler for Your Health" to learn how) and detoxifying the current load of toxins (read "Detoxify or Die) is the best approach for now. Yes, it's true! The "expert" doctor in this interview is OUR FAMILY's Pediatrician!! He is quoted as saying, "We don't know risks that are out there from here. It's not a huge risk, it's not a great risk. BPA has been around," He really believes that parents should feel comfortable having their children exposed to a chemical that he says this about, "the chemical itself and the structure of it raised some concerns." | FDA Decision Regarding the BPA Ban from Baby Bottles and Infant Formula |

Well today is the big day! The FDA is meeting to discuss the ban on the hormone disruptor BPA that leaches out of polycarbonate plastic and canned food linings. Although the FDA's preliminary report was disturbing (they said current exposure levels to this chemical were safe), a more recent FDA Science Board Subcommittee on Food Contact Applications of BPA disagreed. The panel concluded that "the margins of safety defined by the FDA as 'adequate' are, in fact, inadequate." This has consumer interest groups hopeful that the FDA will do the right thing today and ban the chemical from baby bottles and infant formula containers. Unfortunately, I imagine all they will do is insist on more research. This means children will remain in harms way for a few more years while industry is given a reprieve. The solution, once again, is YOU! Learn where dangerous chemicals lurk in YOUR home, and choose safer products. It really is that simple. You can do it! Keep your loved ones safe. Their health is, in fact, in your hands!

 Detoxify or Die by Sherry A. RogersMy reviewrating: 4 of 5 starsThis is a great book to learn what to do to lower the toxic load in your body by detoxifying. Very practical information with excellent resources. Although it is a MUST read for detoxification strategies, I would read another book to determine how to limit the intake of chemicals (such as "Holler for Your Health") because this book just tells you they are everywhere and focuses more on the importance on detoxifying. | Can Conjunctivitis Be Cured With Chamomile? |

I would love some comments from my readers about this. My daughter developed a classic case of conjunctivitis (pink eye) and we would not be able to see a pediatrician for 2 days. I was hoping to find a natural solution anyway, so I went to the internet and learned that chamomile tea placed topically over the eye may help. Shockingly, it did! I took the chamomile flowers that I had harvested from my property earlier in the year and boiled them in water. After it cooled I dipped a cloth in the liquid and laid it over my daughter's infected eye. I repeatedly dipped the cloth until she fell asleep and then removed it. When she woke the following morning the green pus, crusting and redness were completely gone! I would love any input as to how this works or other stories of success. (Simply click on COMMENTS under this entry) What a wonderful way to treat conjunctivitis.
